My family and I came to Savannah for a couple of days, and it was truly a lovely experience, a place we haven’t visited in a while and we will definitely return. It is ideal if you want to disconnect from stress a little and spend some quality time with your family, your partner or friends to enjoy its history, culture, and natural beauty. Savannah transports you back in time with its stunning Georgian architecture and cobblestone streets. Founded in 1733, the city boasts a treasure trove of historic districts, where you can admire restored mansions and squares adorned with centuries-old oak trees draped in Spanish moss. Every corner tells a story, and every stroll is an immersion in colonial history and the elegance of the Old South. What truly sets Savannah apart is its warm hospitality. The city’s residents are proud of their heritage and eager to share their love for this charming place with visitors. The mix of history, culture, and a friendly community makes every visitor feel right at home.
The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah is one of the most iconic and fascinating buildings in the city. The cathedral is located at the corner of Abercorn Street and Harris Street in Savannah’s historic district. This cathedral is known for its impressive Gothic Revival architecture, with two 200-foot (61-meter) towers that dominate the Savannah skyline. Its faรงade is adorned with elaborate stone carvings and stained glass windows that filter a warm, colorful light into the interior. The cathedral is open to visitors during the week, and self-guided tours are available to appreciate its architecture and art. Guides also provide additional information about the cathedral’s history and significance. The culture and food in Savannah are simply outstanding. The city is alive with live music, theater, and art. Don’t miss a visit to the Savannah Playhouse or the Contemporary Arts Center for performances and exhibits highlighting local talent.
Savannah’s squares not only beautify the city, but also boast a rich history and offer spaces for leisure, reflection and exploration. Each square has its own character and offers a window into the past, as well as being a perfect place to enjoy the present, whether you’re looking for a place to relax, take photos or just stroll around. From downtown you can easily walk to the various squares in Savannah. It was very hot the day we went to walk, but thanks to the amount of vegetation in the city, the walk was very pleasant. Of course, we visited Forsyth Park, the largest square in Savannah and famous for its impressive French-style fountain in the center. We also went to Chippewa Square, one of the most historic squares and known for its statue of James Oglethorpe, the founder of Georgia. This square is famous for its appearance in the movie “Forrest Gump”, where Tom Hanks sits on a bench in the center of the square. From riverboat tours on the Savannah River to explorations at the historic Bonaventure Cemetery, every day in Savannah is filled with opportunities to discover and enjoy. Bike rides through the historic district and visits to local museums will allow you to explore the city at your own pace. Another must-visit spot for food lovers is The Paris Market. The Paris Market is a must-visit place for those who love cooking. You will be greeted by an interior design that mixes vintage with chic, creating an atmosphere of sophistication and warmth. The store is decorated with impeccable taste, offering a shopping experience that is both visually stimulating and pleasurable. Every corner seems to tell a story, from the elegant furniture to the exquisite accessories, and it also offers a variety of food products ranging from artisan chocolates and exquisite teas to unique preserves and spices. These products are not only perfect to enjoy at home, but also to take home as special souvenirs. You can also enjoy their cafeteria that offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, sweets and cakes, coffees and teas. In addition to what is offered in the cafรฉ, you can find a variety of gourmet products in the store, such as oils, vinegars, and preserves. In Savannah, Georgia, gastronomy isn’t just about food, it’s a celebration of the rich culinary heritage of the American South. The city is a feast for the senses, offering a dining experience that combines traditional flavors with modern innovations in an atmosphere full of Southern charm. The day before we came to Atlanta, we stopped by The Collins Quarter for dinner, and we really loved it, I recommend it 100%. Not only because we received exceptional service, which I greatly appreciate since it is essential for me, but also because the food was delicious; we will definitely be back here. Savannah is famous for its Southern cuisine, a culinary style that emphasizes fresh ingredients and robust flavors. Signature dishes like gumbo , a spicy stew packed with seafood or meat, and shrimp grits , a combination of sautรฉed shrimp served on a creamy grits base, are just a few of the favorites you can find around the city. Biscuits and peach cobbler are the perfect complement to an authentic Southern meal. Given its coastal location, Savannah is the ideal place to enjoy fresh seafood. From freshly harvested oysters to grilled fish fillets, the city’s restaurants offer a wide range of options for seafood lovers. Pictured above is the Savannah Seafood Shack, a simple restaurant where we were treated very well and enjoyed some delicious fish fillets. It was really delicious. Located in Savannahโs charming historic district, Savannah Candy Kitchen is a must-stop for sweet lovers and any visitor who wants to experience the essence of the South through its treats. This iconic establishment, which has been part of the fabric of the city since 1990, is known for its impressive array of artisan candy and warm hospitality. Their pecan pralines are particularly noteworthy โ hand-made with pecan nuts and a sweet, creamy mixture that melts in your mouth. Another favorite is the pecan nougat and milk caramels that are ideal to take home as a souvenir. Another classic spot to visit is Leopold’s Ice Cream , a historic ice cream shop that has been serving Savannah’s inhabitants since 1919; it’s the perfect place to enjoy a classic ice cream treat in a nostalgic atmosphere. Savannah’s Historic District is one of the city’s most notable areas, known for its impressive preservation of 19th-century architecture and urban planning. Founded in 1733, Savannah boasts one of the largest and best-preserved historic districts in the country. A must-do when visiting the city is to stroll down River Street, which is lined with charming boutiques, souvenir shops, and art galleries. Here you’ll find a variety of shops offering everything from artisanal goods and antiques to unique fashion and souvenirs. The nightlife on River Street is also lively. There are numerous bars and restaurants offering a variety of dining options, from fresh seafood to traditional Southern fare. Tybee Island is famous for its long and picturesque beaches, perfect for sunbathing, swimming in the ocean or just relaxing with a good book. North Beach is ideal for those looking for a quieter atmosphere, while South Beach offers a more lively atmosphere and plenty of opportunities for water activities. It took us about 30 minutes by car from downtown Savannah, and we found parking next to the beach, sometimes it is not so easy and you have to be patient, but it is totally worth it to be able to enjoy a day at the beach if you like. Savannah, Georgia is a destination that offers an unforgettable experience for everyone. With its rich history, vibrant cultural scene, delicious food, and natural beauty, this southern city invites you to explore, relax, and enjoy its timeless charm.
